  1. "Thanks for the Lesson"

I met you when I was in sixth grade
It was my first day in middle school
    and it was yours, too
    But I didn't know

Science was one of my best subjects
but the class time wasn't one of my favorites
I sometimes felt half asleep-it was first period
But your cheerfulness made it alright

The year ended as it always does
    and then I finished 7th, 8th, 9th
then it was time for my Sophomore year
    I didn't know you'd be here

    It was first period again-
but this time, I wasn't tired
The thought of Biology made my mind fire-
    ready for the day

It was my favorite class of the day
so for that I want to say
    Thank you
for all the things you taught me
    In-and out of-the classroom

  2. First period of Freshman Year:
    Social Studies and sleepy students;
    Pointless do-nows and obscure movies,
    The fun never stops.

No matter how complex the historical argument
You always made it easy to understand and relate to.
You were always eager to hear from us,
    Your faithful students,
    Your moldable minds,
    Your little friends.

    We loved talking to you,
And hearing you Rant and Complain about the weekend's ball game
Just before cheerfully introducing us to
    King Louis XIV
    Or Petrarch, "The Man".

    Politics weren't so scary,
The past a little less mysterious,
When you got up and taught us our
    Freshman Year Social Studies.

  3. Thanks to the Teachers

    Some stay in the classroom.
    Some run in the gym.
    Some sit in an office.
    Some Her, Some Him.

    Some teach History,
    Math, English, Or Science.
    Or somewhere in between
    That form an alliance.

    With so many teachers
    From so many years,
    Trying to pick one
    Would cause others tears.

    So this is a Thanks
    To all the teachers.
From us kids at our desks
    or out in the bleachers.

  4. molding a young mind
    soft like clay
    soaking information, a sponge

there walks the leader of our tribe
a lioness and us, her cubs
    strong, but sensitive
    knowing that mistreatment
may crack the spirit before it develops

i sit silent, to not upset
but when she sets the example
    i am quick to imitate
'Cause I don't want to miss recess

  5. Inspiration

    How many people can say
A teacher inspired their first poem
    It wasn’t too long ago
That I sat in class clueless
To how to write or even start
    A poem
It used to take me hours
Just to think and try to write
Now I can pour my heart out
    Within minutes
    You taught me
    You inspired me to learn
    How to write a poem
    So thank you
    You’re the reason I write
    The way I do
Even though I don’t have you anymore
The lessons are still in my head
    You’re the reason I read
    So many times a day
    You inspired me
And now I have found my talent

    "My first day in choir"

My friends said you wanted more students.
I know my singing skills are dull and out of tune.
But you keep pushing them and making them sound better

When I walked in to hear everyone then I saw you
I thought you were an older male with gray hair and a gray
Beard turns out I was wrong

I know the first day was the worst for me because I am shy with new people
But you must have seen it. with the questions you asked I didn’t have any music background at all

And you still wanted to keep me. I am now not as shy and I still can’t sing that good
But you still want me in your class.
Your choir already feels like home to me.

So there I’ll stay till I leave singing with the friends and
    Trying to make you proud!

  7. Thank you

    Thank you.
    You were a Teacher
    You taught us Everything
    We wanted to know

    Thank you.
    You were a Motivator
    You opened our eyes
    And showed us the world

    Thank you.
    You were a Person
    You too had problems
    And we could relate

    Thank you.
    You were a Friend
    You understood Everything
    We was struggling with

    Thank you.
    You were You
You didn’t hide behind your desk
    Or pretend you were better
    You helped us learn
And That prepared us for the world

    I Believe in Mrs. Buzby

You were always kind to me,
Even when the other kids weren’t.

You would help me with my projects,
You always said “Learning is the way

To happiness.” And back then I agreed,
But now that second grade has come and gone

I realized learning wasn’t the half of it.
Learning hid the hate in the world. But not anymore.

But as long as I think back to that wonderful year,
The world doesn’t seem cruel, harsh, and barren

If only for a moment, I flash back to that classroom
Want, wishing, hoping, I could go back.

  9. I remember the first day of
    high school, walking into
    your class, hoping
    that this class would
be easier then Spanish ever was.

You rambled on in a barely comprehendible
voice, saying random sayings in German,
the whole class looking at you in
    bewilderment, wondering why they
decided to even take this class.

    You made my day though;
    most of the time.
    I’ll be honest, I didn’t learn much
    in those two years but
I did have fun in that class.
You were always hilarious and gave me
candy for whenever I did a good job,
    which was a plus!

You have retired now and have left
here for good but I’ll always
remember the good times I had when
you taught my old favorite class.

  11. I understand

    I hated you
    You took me
    From my mother
    When I was only
    Five.

    You pulled me
    By the hand
    I screamed
    My mother cried
    Why would you do that?

    I hated you
    Couldn’t you see?
I didn’t want to be there
    Herded into a classroom
    Like cattle
    With other screaming
    Souls.

    “Let us out”
    We screamed
    In unorganized
    Chaos

    We kicked
    And scremed
    And Cried
    We must of made
    Your life
    Hell

    But you kept on
    Day after day
    You were
    Relentless

    Now
    I look back
    I understand
    I now know why
    I want to say sorry

    You taught me so much
    And for that
    I am grateful
