  1. I’ll introduce myself, too!

My name is Frank Anthony Ferro. I’ve lived in the same house in Mantua, NJ my entire life with my mom, dad, two younger brothers (ages 20 and 18), and two dogs. I have a lovely girlfriend of five years named Kasey Hayes whom I love and adore; she’s helped me get through tough times, and we’ve helped each other survive college. I’m not a huge fan of snow; you’ll find me at the Jersey shore – either Ocean City or Wildwood – during most of the summer months. I am a devout Nintendo fan and, according to my parents, have been playing video games since I was one year old, at which time I picked up my first Nintendo controller and played the original Mario Bros. on the NES. I am also a huge survivor horror fan, my favorites being the Resident Evil and Silent Hill series. I also enjoy astronomy and camping; I often combine the two and camp in open fields or woods with Kas, my friends, and my beloved telescope in remote, dark places in order to observe the best views of the nighttime sky. It’s amazing how bad the light pollution is in most of the area, but you wouldn’t know unless you’ve witnessed the unblemished nighttime sky yourself and seen the Milky Way.

Before working at Pennsville, I worked at Daminger’s Natural Pet Foods in Sewell, NJ – a small, family-owned natural pet foods store – and at Kohl’s Department Store. I didn’t care for the latter the least bit, but the former was a fun place to work. I learned a lot there and the owners treated me like family. I worked there for six years and recently quit to join all of you at Pennsville. 

I have such an extensive list of favorite movies that I cannot name one, but I love any movies with Mel Gibson and Jim Carrey for sure. If I had to pick, I’d say Jurassic Park, Signs, Braveheart, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Lethal Weapon, and 28 Days Later, in no particular order. As far as TV shows go, Family Guy is definitely on the top of my list (Seasons 1-3 especially), but I also like South Park, Archer, and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

I graduated from Clearview Regional High School in 2006 and enrolled at Gloucester County College for the following fall semester. At county college I majored in Liberal Arts because I had such a hard time settling on one particular major. I had an awesome professor at Gloucester County College that made me fall in love with English. After spending two years at GCC, I transferred to Rowan University as an English and Education major. I graduated from Rowan University in December 2010 with a Bachelor of Arts in English and Subject Matter Education.

As an English major I love short stories (Poe, O’Connor, Faulkner, Chopin, Crane, and Melville), poetry of all genres (particularly those of the Romantic and Transcendentalist eras), and Shakespeare’s plays (Hamlet and Macbeth). I can provide two favorite novels: Lord of the Flies and Catch-22. This list, however, is ever-changing as I add more novels to it as time progresses.

Growing up, I always possessed a love for music. I played the saxophone from 4th through 11th grades in the school orchestra and jazz band (don’t ask why I quit my senior year), and I have been in a few different bands since 11th grade as a bass guitar player. I’m always looking to learn a new instrument; I recently took up the Irish whistle and I’d like to try the violin soon. As for my musical tastes, I am into a variety of genres from punk rock/ska (Streetlight Manifesto, Reel Big Fish, Less Than Jake, and NOFX) and Irish punk/folk (Flogging Molly, The Tossers, and Dropkick Murphys) to classic rock (Led Zeppelin and Aerosmith) and funk (Primus). I recently got into Mumford and Sons and have had that band’s CD playing through my car stereo for a good part of the last month.

This is pretty long-winded, so I think you know as much about me as I’m willing to share (ha ha). I hope you find this blog at least somewhat fun, and I look forward to reading all of your blog posts and sharing the rest of the school year with you!

  3. I'm Bailee Nicole Gilbert and I've lived in Pennsville my whole life. You may notice that it takes me a while to say certain words. It is because I have a mildly severe stutter. I may see quite at first, but I will eventually start to talk more. My number one hobby is watching movies. I am an intense movie buff. I have my own collection at home, containing 137 movies. I especially love horror and dramas. My other hobbies are soccer-I've been playing for 11 years, reading, and writing. I also am a bit of a comic book nerd. I get it from my dad, who also loves superheroes and things of that nature.

Being a movie buff, my favorite movies list is quite extensive, but I will try and list my personal favourites: The King's Speech, Memento, Fight Club, The Social Network, The Pianist, Inception, A Clockwork Orange, Donnie Darko, Psycho, Pulp Fiction, Jaws, The Usual Suspects, Reservoir Dogs, Inglourious Basterds, Saw, Scream, Seven, Funny Games, Zodiac, and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. And my favorite TV shows are: Parks and Recreation, Bones, Supernatural, Lie to Me, The Walking Dead, and Dexter.

My favorite subjects in school are probably English and Science. My favorite books are The Hunger Games, Wake, and anything by Stephen King or Ellen Hopkins. I don't really listen to much music; aside form 30 Seconds to Mars and My Chemical Romance. My learning style is a combination of visual and kinesthetic. I prefer to work independently because I feel I have more say and can work better on my project. Due to my stutter, I prefer to read silently. The three words to describe myself would be: shy, friendly, and creative. My after high school plans are to go to SCC for two years, than go to a four-year college and major in film. I'm not sure what I want to do, but I know I want to work in the film industry.

Sorry for the novel, but I love having to do "About Me" things.

  4. I'm Alexis Nichole Sorrels. It bother's me when people spell my name wrong. I've lived in a lot of places. I was born in Delaware and first lived in Newark, but moved to South Dakota when I was about one. We moved back right before my kindergarden years, and lived in New Castle until 4th grade when we moved to Pennsville. I went to an all girls school in 4th grade and absolutely hated it.

I'm more of a hands on learner. I like to read silently, but can read aloud as well. I'm either going to go to SCC or Gloucester County College for two years, and then will transfer out to either Rowan or possibly a college in Florida. I haven't exactly decided yet, but I plan to study Communications and Journalism. I eventually want to be on the radio, or on TV. I recently had an internship with KYW Newsradio. That was quite the experience. It was pretty amazing to see what goes on on the inside, and helped widen my eyes to the career field.

I am a big animal lover. I've got 2 dogs and 2 cats, and am hopefully going to get a hamster soon. I love horseback riding, but haven't been in a while. Baseball is my favorite sport. I'm a huge Phillies fan. I love playing softball.

Three words to describe me: quiet but opinionated.
My favorite book is Of Mice and Men. Steinbeck is my favorite author. My favorite movie would have to be The Departed, followed by Shooter, and the Ocean's movies. (11, 12, 13). My favorite shows are CSI:NY, and recently because of my boyfriend's many collections, Family Guy and South Park.

I don't play any instruments. I'm tone deaf and sound like a dying animal whenever I open my mouth to sing. I like a lot of different music, it depends on my mood, but I like Madina Lake, Breathe Carolina, The Maine, As I Lay Dying, Pink, Jason Aldean, and a lot more.

    I think that's all.

  5. HEY THERE!~ I'm Tori Lein, and I just wanna mention... NINTENDO RULES. Like, forever.

    Anway.

I LOVE TO DRAW. I'm constantly doodling some sort of none sense and I apologize in advance for any strange pictures you see looming in the margins of the papers I give back to you. I actually plan to be an art major and go work for... nintendo... True story.

My favorite movie definitely depends on my mood. I really like animated anything: from Astro Boy to Finding Nemo, if it's bright an colorful I'M THERE. Because of this sort of thing, i am definitely a visual learner... ESPECIALLY if it includes colors... lots and lots of colors. ((Plus... I only watch cartoons, if any TV at all.))

Uhm... let's see... OH. I really like art class, and English. Mostly because neither of them include numbers...

My favorite band or music... also varies with my mood. I have anything from Beethoven to Muse on my iPod.

    I also play Piano... sorta.

I like reading aloud and to myself. Sometimes I really enjoy the performance of reading to everyone.. Unfortunately it kind of depends on how much sleep I get the night before. -shrug-. I could work in a group or by myself... I'M LIKE A SWISS ARMY KNIFE... i can do anything...

I actually have two very pregnant cats... Which reminds me: WOULD ANYONE LIKE A KITTEN ANYTIME SOON?? Seriously though- I don't really want 7 cats running around, no matter how adorable.

Unfortunately I have never been out of the country... but someday I would love to go to Japan... or Italy.

(I also like to ramble on... In case you haven't noticed...)

    Three words:
    FUN, FORGETFUL, CREATIVE?

it has been very nice meeting you. :]

    -Tori Lein

  6. Hey! I'm Josh Scott McFarland. I've lived in Pennsville my entire life so far and I spend most of my time playing video games, whether it be on the computer or a platform. I prefer Playstation or Nintendo, not really an xbox fan. I don't watch too many movies, but I guess my most recent favorite is The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. I'm a big sci-fi fan. My favorite TV-shows are Doctor Who, The Big Bang Theory, and whatever happens to be on Cartoon Network when I turn the TV on...

My favorite subject is probably English. I'm a pretty good writer. I picked up writing pretty recently, maybe last summer, and started to take it more seriously after joining this writing/short story class, but it's still just a hobby. I hardy ever read. I don't actually have a favorite book. I mostly just read the things my friends have written. My favorite type of music is Techno/Electronic. I like the repetitive beeping sounds for some reason. My favorite artists would be Daft Punk, deadmau5, and Owl City. I can sorta play the piano, but i cant read music and left-handedness only allows me to play single notes. I know enough to play a few short tunes, but thats really it.

I'm a very hand-on learner and enjoy doing projects, but prefer to work alone or in a pair if I have to. I hate working in large groups, but general class discussion is fine. I have a slight trouble with reading out loud. I get nervous and read too fast so the sentence comes out as 2-3 word blocks with a 1 second pause between each. I greatly dislike reading out loud because of this, which usually results in the class laughing at me... But that's my other class. This class seems to be fine with it.

I have a bird named Kirby and a dog named Chip. (It's my sister's dog... She chose the name.)

The only other country I've ever been to is Canada, but they're attached to us, so I don't really think it's that big of travel. I have been to Hawaii, but I was little then and can hardly remember any details.

    Three words? Silent Yet Thoughtful
I'm really shy when in a group. I hardly ever talk unless asked to, but all those unspoken words come out in writing later... I really just go with it and see what happens. I plan on going to Wilmington College for their new Game Design program. I've always wanted to create my own video game, but never had the tools to make one. I think it would be an enjoyable (and definitely profitable) career.

    And that's pretty much it...
(Ellipses... I use them a lot...)
